SafetyClimbingGround

The Pfanner Protos visor with F39 fine mesh is the replacement face screen for the Protos Integral helmet system. Its fine mesh screens chips and smaller debris while still letting air through, so it stays clear in the heat.

Fine mesh on the Protos

The Protos Integral is built as a system, with the visor and muffs designed around the shell. The F39 fine mesh option suits crews who want a tighter screen against small chips and sawdust than a coarser mesh gives.

Fine mesh slightly reduces how much you see through it compared with coarse mesh, so some climbers prefer coarse mesh for canopy work and fine mesh for ground saw work.

Pfanner builds its Protos helmets as complete systems, so replacement parts like this visor keep an expensive helmet in service for years. Keep a spare visor in the truck since a bent or clogged screen is hard to see through. When you replace it, check the hinge and the earmuffs for wear as well, since parts that see the same use tend to wear out together.

Fitting and care

Fit the visor to the Protos following Pfanner's instructions and check that it pivots, holds position and locks down fully. Replace it once the mesh is bent, torn or clogged with pitch.

Rinse sap and dust off with water and mild soap, let it dry, and replace it once it is bent, torn or hard to see through. A visor adds protection from chips and debris but does not replace safety glasses, so wear both. More options are in our eye protection range.
