Petzl Vizir Eye Shield (2019 Version)

The Petzl Vizir 2019 version is a clear eye shield that mounts on the 2019 and later Vertex and Strato helmets. It gives climbers eye protection that stays on the helmet and flips up out of the way when they do not need it.

Why climbers like an eye shield

A clear shield gives you good visibility under shaded canopy, where tinted glasses can make it hard to see. It also sits outside any prescription glasses, which some climbers prefer.

Because it lives on the helmet, you are never left looking for your glasses when you reach the top of a climb.

The Vizir is also useful for climbers who wear prescription glasses, since it sits in front of them without pressing on the frame. Keep it clean and stored so it does not get scratched in the truck or gear bag, because a scratched shield makes it hard to see the details you need to read the tree. Replace it once scratches start to blur your view.

Fitting and care

Check that your helmet is a 2019 or later Vertex or Strato, since older shells use a different mount. Click the shield in on both sides and check it pivots and holds position.

Rinse sap and dust off with water and mild soap, let it dry, and replace it once it is bent, torn or hard to see through. A visor adds protection from chips and debris but does not replace safety glasses, so wear both. More options are in our eye protection range.
