Climbing

Samson ArborFreak in Pine Beauty is the green colorway of Samson's 11.7mm, 16-strand arborist climbing line. It is built to run smoothly through hitches and mechanical devices and to hold up to daily use in the tree.

On the job

At 11.7mm the ArborFreak fits the sweet spot for most hitch cords, rope wrenches and SRS devices built around half-inch class lines. The 16-strand cover gives a firm hand and keeps its round profile, so it feeds evenly through a hitch or a device.

The green Pine Beauty color is easy to tell apart from the rest of the gear on the truck, which helps on crews running several lines. Check your device maker's compatibility list before running it on SRS.

ArborFreak has a following among climbers who switch between MRS and SRS, since one line can cover both if your devices approve it. New rope often runs a little stiff for the first climbs, so give it time to break in before judging how it pairs with your hitch.

Inspection and care

Keep your climbing line in a rope bag, away from chips, bar oil, fuel and long hours of sun. Never cut near it, and never use it to lower wood. A climbing line that has caught a rigging load is a rigging line from then on.

Life-support gear must meet ANSI Z133 requirements and the manufacturer's instructions, be inspected before every climb, and be used only by trained climbers. Retire the rope if you find cuts, glazing, chemical contact, core damage or a section that feels different from the rest. Compare more 16-strand climbing rope.
