Arbortec BreatheDry Waterproof Smock (Black, Large)

The Arbortec BreatheDry waterproof smock is a breathable pullover jacket for tree work in wet weather, shown here in black, size large. A smock has no full-length front zip, so there is less to snag and nothing to fail when you are climbing, rigging, or dragging brush in the rain.

Why climbers like a smock

A full-zip jacket under a saddle is awkward: the zip bunches under the waist belt, the hem catches on hardware, and the front can work open. A smock pulls over your head, sits cleanly under the saddle, and has less to snag on branches. Breathable fabric matters too, because a fully sealed jacket soaks you in sweat by the second climb.

Black hides sap and bar oil better than lighter colors, but it is not high-visibility. On road jobs or busy sites, add the high-visibility garment the job requires.

Fit and care

Check the size against your usual layers; you want room for a fleece underneath and enough arm length to reach overhead without the hem lifting. Make sure the smock does not cover or interfere with your saddle's attachment points.

Wash it following the care label, using a cleaner suited to waterproof fabrics rather than standard detergent, and reproof it when water stops beading on the surface. Keep it away from bar oil and fuel where you can, as they can affect the coating.
