Climbing

The ISC Ultrasafe hand ascender adds a safety pin that helps stop the cam from opening by accident during an ascent. It is a solid choice for climbers who want an extra level of security on their SRS ascent system.

Why a safety pin

On a busy climb, the rope can push against a cam or a branch can knock it. The safety pin on the Ultrasafe helps keep the rope captured until you choose to release it.

It pairs with a foot ascender and your SRS device for a fast ascent. Compare other handled ascenders in ascent and descent.

A safety pin is extra security, not a replacement for good technique. Watch how the rope runs through the ascender and keep branches and other ropes clear of the cam while you climb.

Setup and inspection

Check ISC's instructions for rope diameter and the correct connection points. Practice loading and unloading the rope with the pin on the ground.

Life-support gear must meet the applicable standard (ANSI Z133 and the manufacturer's instructions), be inspected before every use, and be used only by trained climbers. Inspect the cam teeth, spring, pin and frame before every climb.

Clean sap and bark from the cam after each day, and check that the pin moves freely and seats fully. Store the ascender in your climbing bag away from sharp tools and heavy hardware.
