Climbing

The Notch Jet Step foot ascender clamps onto the rope at your boot so your legs drive the climb on a single rope. With a hand ascender above it, it is one of the simplest ways to speed up an SRS ascent.

How it helps

Every step you take with a foot ascender moves you up the rope. Your arms only need to slide the hand ascender up, so you reach the tie-in point with energy left to work.

It shines on tall trees and on days with several climbs. Compare other options in foot ascenders and foot loops.

Many climbers who move to SRS add a foot ascender early, since it makes the biggest difference to ascent speed. The Jet Step is designed with tree work in mind and fits common arborist setups.

Setup and inspection

Adjust the strap so the ascender sits firmly on your boot and the rope feeds smoothly. Practice close to the ground.

It is an ascent aid only. Life-support gear must meet the applicable standard (ANSI Z133 and the manufacturer's instructions), be inspected before every use, and be used only by trained climbers. Check the cam teeth, spring and strap before each climb.

Clean sap and bark from the cam after each day of climbing. Store the ascender in your climbing bag away from sharp tools, and replace the strap when it frays or stretches.
