Ground

The Husqvarna 550XP toy chainsaw is a kid-size plastic version of the saw with sounds and a moving plastic chain, so the next generation of tree workers can buck pretend logs in the yard. It has no cutting parts and runs on small batteries.

A toy for the crew's kids

Kids who watch a parent head out to work in chaps and a helmet want to do the same thing. This toy looks like the 550XP that a lot of crews run on the ground, with orange and gray colors and a trigger that makes it rattle and rev.

The chain is plastic and the toy has no blade or teeth, so it is safe for play. It is a good way to start talking about saw safety early: helmet on, two hands on the saw, and nobody stands in front of it.

It also makes a fun prop for a kid who wants to dress up in a little helmet and safety glasses, and it is a nice nod to the saws that put food on the table.

Buying notes

Check the age recommendation on the packaging and keep spare batteries on hand. If you are shopping for the real thing, see our chainsaws for working saws.

Keep the toy away from the real saws in the shop, and make sure kids understand that real chainsaws are tools for trained adults only.

Wipe it down with a damp cloth when it gets muddy, and take the batteries out if it is going to sit in a toy box for a while so they do not leak.
