The GRCS combines a capstan winch with a lowering device in one unit that straps to the trunk. That lets a ground crew pretension a rigging line, pull over tops, lift wood out of tight spots and then lower it under control, all with the same setup.
It is a big step up for removal crews that handle heavy wood in tight yards. Rigging forces can be far higher than people expect, so size ropes, slings and blocks for the loads, follow the manufacturer's instructions, and make sure operators are trained.
