SMC Crevasse Pulley

The SMC Crevasse pulley is a light, compact pulley originally aimed at mountaineering haul kits, and tree climbers use it for hitch tending, redirects and simple haul setups. It is small enough to carry on the saddle every day.

Uses in tree work

A small pulley is one of the most useful pieces on the saddle. Under a hitch, it makes slack tending a one-hand job. On a redirect, it cuts friction and rope wear. In a simple haul, it helps tension a line or lift a small load.

The Crevasse is light enough that you will not mind carrying it. Many climbers keep one clipped as a spare for redirects even if they run another pulley for hitch tending.

It also makes sense in a small rescue or haul kit for the truck, where you want a few light pulleys that do not take up much space. When a rope gets hung up or a piece needs a quick lift, a light pulley and a few slings can save a lot of pulling by hand. Keep one with each rope bag and it will get used more often than you might expect.

Checks before use

Confirm the pulley fits your rope diameter and the carabiner you connect it with. Check that the side plates close fully and that the sheave turns freely without wobble.
