A Yale Cordage end fitting for synthetic winch lines like Ultrex.
The Yale Cordage Chook is the end fitting Yale supplies on its Ultrex synthetic winch lines, sold here on its own. Crews pick it up to re-rig a line, replace a damaged fitting, or set up a line cut from bulk Ultrex.
A synthetic winch line is only as good as the hardware on its end. The Chook is the fitting Yale pairs with its Ultrex lines, and buying it separately lets you build your own line from bulk Ultrex or replace a fitting that has been damaged or lost on a job.
Match the fitting to the diameter of line you are running and to the loads your winch can produce, and confirm the rating with the seller before use. You can find bulk Ultrex and finished lines in rigging rope and winch line.
Attach the fitting to the line as the manufacturer specifies; a poorly made connection is the weak point in the whole setup. If you are not sure how to terminate synthetic line, have it done by someone trained in splicing.
Check the fitting before each use for cracks, deformation, sharp edges that could cut the line, and wear where it bears on the rope. Inspect synthetic winch line for cuts, abrasion, melted or fused fibers, and heavy discoloration, and replace it if the line is damaged. Keep everyone out of the line of pull while winching, and use the winch and line only within their rated capacity and the manufacturer's instructions.
