A heavier 18mm Marlow rigging line for big removals and blocking down wood.
Marlow Raptor 18mm rigging rope is the heavier line in the Raptor family, sized for removals where you block down large wood and want more strength margin. At about 3/4 inch it calls for full-size rigging blocks and lowering devices rated for that diameter.
When the wood gets big, shock loads climb fast. An 18mm line gives you more strength and more material to wear before it is compromised, which is why crews reserve a heavy line for blocking down trunks and large leaders.
It weighs more and takes up more room, so most crews pair it with a lighter line like the 14mm Raptor for daily work. Compare the full range in our rigging rope section.
Heavier rope also gives the ground worker more to hold. With a few wraps on a porta-wrap or bollard, an 18mm line lets the ground crew let the run of the rope absorb energy and bring a big piece to a stop more gently than a skinny line would.
Use blocks, porta-wraps, and slings that list 18mm or 3/4 inch rope in their range. Set a working load limit from the maker's rated strength with room for shock, and remember knots and tight bends reduce strength.
Before every job, check for cut strands, glazing, flat or stiff spots, and core damage, and retire any rope that has taken a severe shock load. Heavy rigging should follow ANSI Z133 and be planned by a qualified crew leader.
Store it coiled loosely or flaked in a bag, out of sun and away from fuel and chemicals, and keep a record of the jobs it has done.

Many crews own both: 14mm for daily rigging and 18mm for heavy removals. Choose by the size of wood you regularly block down.
Check the block's marked rope range. Many full-size blocks take 3/4 inch rope, but smaller blocks may not.
