Pole-mounted head for setting a line over a limb from the ground.
The Jameson Rope Sniper is a pole-mounted rope placement tool that lets you set a line over a limb from the ground. It mounts on a Jameson pole and speeds up line placement on lower crotches where a throw bag is slow or awkward.
A throw bag is the go-to for high anchors, but low and mid-height crotches are often quicker with a pole. The Rope Sniper holds the line on the pole head so you can lift it over a limb and drop it in place, then pull the pole away. It is handy for setting pull-lines, re-setting a climbing line, and working in crowded crowns where throws keep snagging.
Reach is limited by your pole, so it complements a throw line kit rather than replacing it.
The tool is also useful for placing a line at the right spot over a union when you need to isolate a specific crotch. With a pole, you can see and control where the line lands more precisely than with a throw.
Ground crews also use pole tools to retrieve lines that hang up on a lower limb, saving the climber a trip.
Keep poles well clear of power lines; follow ANSI Z133 approach distances. Confirm your anchor before climbing. See more in climbing rope.
Before climbing on any anchor set from the ground, confirm the limb is alive, sound, and large enough for the load, and that the line went over the intended union.
Keep the pole sections clean so they lock and unlock smoothly, and store them out of the sun.
