A cambium saver from CAMP that protects the tree and your climbing line.
The CAMP Herbol cambium saver goes over a limb at your tie-in point so your climbing line runs on hardware instead of bark. It reduces friction, protects the cambium, and saves wear on your rope.
Running a climbing line straight over a limb wears through bark, heats the rope, and adds friction to every move. A cambium saver separates the rope from the tree, so you climb smoother and leave less damage behind, which matters on pruning jobs where the tree stays.
Install it from the ground with a throw line or set it as you climb, depending on your system.
A cambium saver also makes your climb smoother. With the rope running on hardware instead of bark, your hitch advances more easily and you lose less energy on every move. On repeat jobs in the same tree, it protects the tie-in union from the damage that builds up when rope saws back and forth over time.
Check the rings or hardware and the connecting sling or rope for wear, grooves, and cuts. Make sure the saver sits on a sound limb that is sized for the load.
Store the saver with your climbing kit, clean and dry, and keep it away from rigging gear. A saver that has been used for rigging loads should not go back into life-support service.
See other friction savers. Life-support gear must meet the applicable standard (ANSI Z133 and the manufacturer's instructions), be inspected before every use, and be used only by trained climbers.
